A Watch with a View: the Oris Artelier Skeleton

The Artelier Skeleton by Swiss watch manufacturer Oris is not only a skeleton watch with a fascinating view of the movement, but it's also an appropriate timepiece for almost any occasion. It comes in both men's and women's models.

Highlights

  • Intricately skeletonized movement
  • Easy to read despite skeletonization
  • Men's and women's models
  • Looks good with a suit or jeans and a t-shirt

Oris Artelier Skeleton – Deep Insights

In addition to their rather sporty Diving and Aviation collections, Oris also offers a whole line of interesting dress watches. Among these watches, the Artelier Skeleton is a true highlight. As is the case with all skeletonized watches, the Artelier Skeleton gives us a fascinating look at the inner workings of the watch. Subtle Art Deco elements make the Skeleton both playful and serious, meaning it's the perfect watch for both formal occasions and everyday wear.

Models and Prices

The multi-piece 40-mm stainless steel case of the Artelier Skeleton is mostly polished. Only the top of the lugs and a small ring between the bezel and case have a satin-brushed finish. The silvery-white dial with a fine guilloché finish and long indices fits in wonderfully with this timepiece's overall look. The large hole in its middle reveals the complete movement and makes this watch an object of beauty.

It is powered by the Oris caliber 734, based on the Sellita SW 200-1, which is then intricately skeletonized and refined by Oris. As always, the Swiss manufacturer equipped this movement with their trademark red rotor that stands front and center when viewed through the mineral glass case back. The Artelier Skeleton is worn with a stainless steel bracelet or a brown, black, or gray leather band. Prices for these watches range from just under 1,600 euros for the variant with a leather band to 1,650 euros for the one with a stainless steel bracelet. Oris also offers the Skeleton with a gold-plated bezel and gold-plated indices and hands. Expect to pay around 1,750 euros for this watch.

The Artelier Skeleton for Women

The main differences between the women's and men's editions of the Artelier Skeleton lie in their sizes and movements. The women's Skeleton is only 31 mm in diameter and uses the Oris 560 based on the ETA 2671. Plan to spend around 1,550 euros for one of these watches with a leather band. Models with a stainless steel bracelet cost around 1,750 euros.

Artelier Skeleton Diamonds

In terms of technology, the Artelier Skeleton Diamonds is almost identical to its sister models. A skeletonized Oris caliber 734 also ticks away inside this watch. It has a stainless steel case and features double domed sapphire glass. Its case is slightly larger at 40.5 mm, and its hands lack a layer of SuperLuminova.

What really sets the Skeleton Diamonds apart from the standard versions of this skeleton watch are the 12 diamonds used in place of indices on the ring-shaped guilloché dial. Oris takes it a step further with the 31-mm women's model, offering a version with an additional 72 diamonds on the bezel. As always, these watches come with a stainless steel or leather band. However, in addition to brown and black, the leather band is also available in white.

Be sure to set aside around 2,100 euros for an Artelier Skeleton Diamonds with a leather band. If you would prefer a watch with a stainless steel bracelet, have an additional 200 euros at the ready. These prices apply to both the men's and women's models. The one exception is the model with a diamond-encrusted bezel, which costs about 3,300 euros.

Artelier Translucent Skeleton

The Artelier Translucent Skeleton doesn't have a dial. Paired with a case back made almost entirely of double domed mineral glass, its Oris caliber 734 almost seems to float in midair. The movement is only held in place by 11 brackets, which also function as hour markers for telling the time in conjunction with the black hands. Oris left off one bracket at 6 o'clock, where they placed their company logo.

The band comes in either brown leather or stainless steel. An Artelier Translucent Skeleton with the leather band goes for around 1,650 euros, while the model with a stainless steel bracelet requires an investment of about 1,700 euros. The edition with an 18-karat rose gold bezel feels a bit more elegant. Be ready to spend around 2,600 euros for one of these fine timepieces.
