Before you receive your watch, it will be checked and certified by a verified watchmaker. Among other things, the watchmaker checks whether your watch matches the listing information and whether it complies with our definition of authenticity.
3. Receive your watch and digital certificate of authenticity
After successful certification, you can rest assured your new watch is genuine. This is confirmed by a certificate of authenticity, which you can access digitally after receiving your watch.

Chrono24 Buyer Protection offers complete security for your payment. If you purchase from a professional dealer, we will hold the purchase amount in our escrow account for 14 days after you receive your watch. This means your money is safe until you're sure you're satisfied with your purchase. Only then will we transfer payout to the dealer. If you've selected a watch with Certified as an optional add-on, you can book certification for an additional charge of £249. In this case, the watch will be checked by one of our in-house watchmakers before being shipped to you. See also: What's included in Certified Optional?

If certification is already included, you'll receive your certified watch at no additional cost. You pay the purchase price of the watch as usual via our escrow service.
If you book certification for a watch that is not already certified, you pay the purchase price of the watch plus an additional £249 for certification. We will only issue an invoice for the certification if you expressly request one.

All Certified watches are comprehensively checked against specific criteria by a verified watchmaker. This is the only way we can guarantee the authenticity of your watch. The check includes the following:

Authenticity check: The authenticity of the watch is checked both inside and out. We also check to make sure the watch meets our definition of authenticity. {0}See: How do we define authenticity?{1}

Functionality check: We test the watch's complications, winding mechanism, chronograph function, and more. {2}See: How do we define authenticity?{3}

Scope of delivery check: All additional items, such as the original box and papers (if included), are checked for completeness and conformity with the model reference.

Theft check: The watch's serial number is checked against leading stolen watch databases. This ensures that the watch hasn't been stolen or otherwise lost by its rightful owner.

Every watchmaker who certifies watches under the Certified program has to meet certain criteria. In this way, we ensure he or she has suitable qualifications and technical equipment. Through individualized audits, we also ensure that watches are tested exclusively by experts and in accordance with our standards. As the world's leading online marketplace for luxury watches, we want to be as transparent as possible with our users. That's why, as part of the certification process, verified watchmakers individually assess and certify the authenticity of each essential watch component, inspecting them for deviations from the original.

According to our definition of authenticity, a watch is considered authentic if it is either in its original condition (as produced by the manufacturer) or contains no more than two non-original replacement parts free of brand names or logos. Permitted aftermarket replacement parts include the crown, bezel, hands, and push-pieces.

Based on our more than 20 years of experience in the watch industry, we believe that a maximum of two non-branded aftermarket replacement parts does not affect the authenticity of a watch, especially if they play an important role in maintaining the watch's functionality. However, aftermarket parts must be described in the listing. Our verified watchmakers will also note any deviations from the original condition on the certificate of authenticity.

Customized watches or otherwise inauthentic and counterfeit watches are excluded from certification.

If, during certification, the watch is found to contain key replacement parts (e.g., different hands) that do not bear a brand name or logo, we will reach out to you.
You will then have three options:
1. You can accept the certification results and proceed with your purchase. Your watch will be shipped to you within 1-3 business days.
2. You can cancel your purchase. In this case, we will return the watch to the seller and issue a full refund of both the purchase price and the certification fee.
3. We can ask the seller to reduce the purchase price. If you agree to a lower price, we'll pay you the difference after delivery of the watch.

No. Certification is not mandatory if you want to buy a watch on Chrono24. However, if Certified is already included for a particular watch, this service cannot be withdrawn or modified. Although shipping costs vary by delivery location, we charge a set amount for all buyers. Our watchmakers ship your watch directly to you following the certification process. Upon successful certification, you'll receive a digital certificate that confirms the authenticity of your watch.
Regardless of whether you choose a watch that has already been certified or one that can be certified for an extra fee, the process and quality standards of certification remain the same. Certified Included is available for selected watches listed with a minimum price of £900. These watches are certified in advance by a verified watchmaker working in cooperation with the dealer. There is no additional cost for this service.
Certified Optional is available as an add-on for selected watches listed with a minimum price of £5,000. For these watches, you can book certification by our in-house watchmakers for an additional charge of £249.

The certificate of authenticity contains information about the make and model of the watch as well as its date of issue. The watch's serial number, production year, and reference number, as well as the Chrono24 transaction (TC) number are included on the certificate. If, during the certification process, the watchmaker notices any deviations from the original in terms of authenticity or replacement parts, these will be listed as additional comments. Only you have access to your digital certificate of authenticity. You can access it in your Chrono24 account.

Together with your Certified watch, you will receive a digital Certificate of Authenticity that includes an Authenticity Guarantee. This guarantee conforms to our definition of authenticity and is valid for one year from the date the certificate is issued. If you suspect that your watch does not meet our definition of authenticity, please contact our support team and they will review your request immediately. Depending on the outcome of this review, we will either reimburse you for the full purchase amount or replace the component in question so that the watch fully meets our definition of authenticity.
