Hi. Thanks for looking at this mighty SARG009 from powerhouse watchmaker Seiko; a company that was founded in 1881.
This model is now discontinued by Seiko making this a desirable and collectable reference and is a JDM model created for the Japanese Domestic Market that is becoming a Seiko classic.
This is a rare and sought after Seiko SARG009 on steel bracelet that has been nicknamed the Seiko ‘Explorer’ or ‘Ranger’ due to the dial layout that has some resemblance to both the Tudor Ranger and, to the Rolex Explorer.
The watch is in excellent condition and running order.
This Seiko is hard to find, especially when complete with the original steel bracelet. The dial has a lovely deep black lustre with off white lumed Arabic numerals. The lumed sword hands compliment the dial well and offer excellent legibility. Adding the finishing touch are a matte black rehaut and black matched date disc.
The case is a well proportioned 40mm in diameter excluding the crown. It features matte surfaces and mirrored polished sides, in a classic bevelled Seiko shape.
The crown is buttery smooth (better than I have felt on some more expensive watches) and still has enough of a tactile feel to let you know it is being wound. With the crown being 3x6mm it is easy to grip and while it does not screw down, the crown does feel very secure and takes some purposeful force to get it into position 1. With the 100m WR you can be confident that the SARG can handle most of what everyday situations will throw at it.
The stainless steel bracelet has a deployant clasp with a dual push-button release.
Inside is the reliable and robust 6R15 movement /caliber self-winding movement that can also be hand wound and hacked. It is a movement that is easily serviced.
The movement is visible through a case back and while it is nothing special and quite utilitarian, I do think the Geneva Stripes on the rotor are a nice touch
With date complication at the 3 o'clock, which is running perfectly.
All links are present for the bracelet - often not included with these watches.
The watch is in great condition, with no deep scratches or dents.
The sapphire crystal is clear and unmarked.
With Seiko’s LumiBrite lume technology, the lume of this watch is not just brilliant, but also unique because of the generous lume on top of the numeral markers
The case, bezel, and bracelet do have typical surface scratches from day to day wear - but nothing heavy. These could easily be polished out with minimal effort by a watchmaker if you so wish but we preferred to keep the watch original.
Please do examine the photos closely as I have tried my best to show these there.
Water resistant 100 meters
The movement has a generous 50 hour power reserve
The watch is complete with the original boxes and papers and seiko polish cloth.
This is a desirable and rare piece; a luxury range watch that is available at an affordable price and punches well above its weight in terms of price, build quality. An excellent timepiece for sure. A versatile field style watch which can be worn casually or formally - on a strap or elegantly on the bracelet.
Overall, the Seiko SARG009 is a handsome and elegant watch. It’s heavily influenced by the Rolex Explorer, but it also has its own personality to it.
The usage of little details on the dial are so easy to miss, yet it shows just how much effort is put in by Seiko. The “SEIKO” signature at the middle top is not painted but applied in stainless steel. It gives a very nice 3-Dimensionality to the logo. Looking closely, you can also notice that at the middle of the watch that the 3 hands circular attachment to the stem are stacked nicely on top of each other giving a very nice pyramid look.
Thumbs up to Seiko for this gorgeous watch!
Thanks again for looking and please get in touch with any questions. I'd love to hear from you.
