Collection
With the new pioneer 417 es, Hanhart pays tribute to and reissues one of its most iconic models: the famous hand-wound Bicompax 417 chronograph. As early as the mid-1950s, Hanhart supplied this chronograph to German airmen of the "Bundeswehr". Later, the 417 would be seen on the wrist of the "King of Cool" Steve McQueen in the film The Car Lover (1962), in everyday life alternating with other prestigious watches, and also at a world enduro championship in Erfurt, Germany. This reissue features the addition of es, for "Edel Stahl", or stainless steel in the language of Goethe, as opposed to the original brass model. This new model is more faithful to the historic 417, dropping from 42mm for the 2020 reissue to 39mm here. The same applies to the dial, logo and bezel, with its red markings, as to the 1954 model. As a concession to modernity, the hour-markers and pencil hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, and the case is topped with an ultra-curved sapphire crystal. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the 417 es chronograph boasts impeccable mechanics, with a Sellita SW510 manual-winding caliber ensuring the highest quality Swiss craftsmanship. In addition to a stop-second function, it offers a power reserve of up to 58 hours. This is undeniably one of the finest aviation chronographs on the market today, and it comes in a magnificent black leather marmot!

Case
Made of stainless steel, the case of this Hanhart 417 es measures 39mm in diameter and 13.3mm thick, with a horn-to-horn length of 46mm. It features a polished/brushed finish and is topped by a fluted bi-directional rotating bezel marked with the German brand's famous red marker. The case is topped with a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside, and a solid screw-down caseback adorned with the historic "Hanhart" logo, making it less vulnerable to water and impurities. Finally, two slender push-pieces at 2 and 4 o'clock and an imposing crown at 3 o'clock complete the case of this automatic chronograph.

Dial
The 417's matte black dial features large Arabic numerals for reading the hours, complemented by a fine minute track and a white railway track. At the center of the dial are a set of chrome-plated "pencil" hands. Digits and hands are coated with C3-type Super-LumiNova, in a discreet cream shade. In addition, two counters are located at 3 and 9 o'clock, the first a 30-minute totalizer and the second a small seconds hand. Finally, the Gütenbach brand affixes its historic logo at 12 o'clock and the words "shockproof" and "antimagnetic" at 6 o'clock in the original typography. It's a typical aviation dial, with the emphasis on legibility even in the darkest environments.

Movement
This Hanhart bi-compax chronograph is powered by a sw 510 m hand-wound mechanical caliber from Swiss motor-maker Sellita. This movement features 23 jewels and oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, while offering a power reserve of 58 hours after complete winding. The Sellita caliber features a stop-second function for precision enthusiasts, and is a reliable, easy-to-maintain movement.

Strap
True to its history with Steve McQueen, this 417 es 39mm is mounted on a black calf leather strap with white stitching, and offered with a removable "Bund" sub-strap to reinforce its pilot's watch character. The strap measures 20mm and benefits from a black alcantara cuff for optimum comfort. Available in size m, to suit wrists from 14.5 to 19 cm, the bracelet is fitted with a pin buckle engraved with the historic "Hanhart" logo. A larger bracelet is available as an option, simply ask us when you place your order.

Water resistance
Relatively rare for an aviation watch, this Hanhart is water-resistant to 10 atm, or around 100 meters. This means you can enjoy a sporty swim or a reasonable dive in a swimming pool.

Warranty
Hanhart offers a 2-year warranty on this model. This warranty takes effect from the date of purchase and covers any manufacturing defects such as faulty parts, problems arising from incorrect assembly or incorrect adjustment of the mechanism.
