Description |
ROLEX Oyster Perpetual Date 15210 Watch Box & Papers 2004.
This piece is the horological equivalent of standing at Greenwich with one leg in the West and the other in the East. It is the very last Rolex piece to employ engine-turning on its bezel, while simultaneously being the progenitor of the calibre 3135 self-winding movement that has continued to be employed to this day. It is a piece that harks back to a past, and also a piece of innovation that establishes a future. This watch seems to be the very nature of duality, from its androgynous design to its versatility in the formal and casual. It is certainly a unique piece, and is criminally overlooked. The 34mm dial, which in itself is very rare especially now, is a stunning sunburst silver, with steel appliques including the Rolex crown at the 12-o'-clock position and baton indices at the hour markers which are peripheralised by raised SuperLuminova-applied dots with an impressive teal-green lume. Being a Date, it is of course furnished with a date window, all of which is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, with cyclops lens over the date-box. This crystal is slightly raised from the bezel, which allows the piece to capture light at its periphery and frame the dial beautifully. Mentioning the bezel, it is of course very unique and eye catching - not least because of its light-catching properties. The bezel has been left polished in places above the hour-markers, with a double-tab above the Rolex Crown. This polished element contrasts with the engine-turned bezel to create a great textural contrast, which lends itself to a contrast in colour at certain angles in certain environments. With one colour-tone, Rolex has managed to create a design which is the furthest thing from monotone, a vast world of an array of silver in one piece. These design elements are so captivating that one may forget to mention the other elements of the case and bracelet but these too are expertly finished. The fluted crown is embellished with that signature Rolex Crown that has come to mean high quality craftsmanship and features a screw-down design that increases water resistance, the watch itself being rated at 10 ATM. The softer, more refined than the modern muscular takes on, lugs are finished in a smooth directionless polish. These lead into the brushed steel oyster bracelet that underpins the sportiness of the aesthetic of the piece. Peering at the beauty under the surface, you can find the self-winding calibre 3155 complete with quick date correction. The movement has a satisfyingly smooth sweep, with 8 ticks per second, 50 hours of power reserve and bi-directional rotor. An improvement on the iconic 3055 movement, it carries over many of the innovations which signalised the suitability of the movement for high-precision timekeeping, such as the Nivarox hairspring, Breguet overcoil and Microstella regulating system. This movement is so spectacular, that you can find them fitted on Datejust models today. |

Do you have any questions?
Certified watches can be identified by the green "C" icon in the search results and in the listing. You can also filter search results to only view Certified watches. On the listing page, you can see whether Certified is already included or whether it's an optional add-on to your purchase. See also: What's the difference between Certified Included and Certified Optional?
2. Certification by verified watchmakers
Before you receive your watch, it will be checked and certified by a verified watchmaker. Among other things, the watchmaker checks whether your watch matches the listing information and whether it complies with our definition of authenticity.
3. Receive your watch and digital certificate of authenticity
After successful certification, you can rest assured your new watch is genuine. This is confirmed by a certificate of authenticity, which you can access digitally after receiving your watch.
If you purchase from a private seller, we will hold the purchase amount in our escrow account for 7 days after you receive your watch. Please note, however, that private sellers are not legally mandated to accept returns.
Certified is our new certification service whereby verified watchmakers check and certify the authenticity of watches to provide customers on our marketplace with a worry-free buying experience. After successful certification, you'll receive a digital certificate of authenticity that confirms the watch meets our definition of authenticity and matches the information in the listing. Certified watches come with a three-year authenticity guarantee. See also: How is the watch checked?
If you've selected a watch with Certified as an optional add-on, you can book certification for an additional charge of £249. In this case, the watch will be checked by one of our in-house watchmakers before being shipped to you. See also: What's included in Certified Optional?
If you book certification for a watch that is not already certified, you pay the purchase price of the watch plus an additional £249 for certification. We will only issue an invoice for the certification if you expressly request one.
The check includes the following:
Authenticity check: We check both the exterior and interior of the watch against our definition of authenticity. See also: How do we define authenticity?
Condition check: We check whether the condition of the watch matches the information in the listing, including the complications, winding mechanism, chronograph function, and more. See also: How do we define authenticity?
Scope of delivery check: All additional items, e.g., original box and papers, are checked for completeness and accordance with the model reference.
Stolen watch check: We check whether the watch's serial number is listed in the leading stolen watches databases. This ensures that there are no thefts reported for the serial number.
According to our definition of authenticity, we consider a watch to be authentic if it is either in its original condition (as it was when it left the manufacturer) or contains a maximum of two service parts that do not originate from the manufacturer and do not contain a trademark. Permissible service parts include the crown, bezel, hands, or push-pieces. These will be noted during the certification process and listed under "Notes" on the certificate of authenticity. Customized or modified watches as well as fake or counterfeit watches cannot be certified.
More detailed information can be found in our info sheet: "Chrono24 Definition of Authenticity," which you can find on our Certified website.
If you booked Certified as an add-on, our in-house watchmakers will carry out a thorough check. If they notice the condition of the watch differs from the information in the listing (e.g., additional scratches) or that key replacement parts without a brand name or logo are present (e.g., different bracelet or hands), they will reach out to you.
You typically have three options of how to proceed:
You accept the results of the certification and decide to proceed with buying the watch. In this case, your watch should be ready for dispatch and shipped to you within 1–3 business days.
You decide to withdraw from the purchase due to the discrepancies found. In this case, we'll ship the watch back to the seller and refund you your payment from our escrow account.
At your request, we can contact the seller and suggest adjusting the purchase price. If you agree to a lower price, we'll send you a partial refund from our escrow account after the watch has been delivered.
Private sellers are not legally mandated to accept returns.
