Description:

1989 Rolex President 18238 Day Date 18K Yellow Gold Champagne Dial Wristwatch with Box and Papers. Timepiece is in overall excellent condition and has remained unpolished. The wristwatch has developed a lovely warm patina as a result of remaining unpolished. Some very light wear in keeping with age and usage. The President bracelet shows minimal to no stretch and includes 20 links with three removable, fits 7" wrist size. Bracelet is date coded to 1989. Original sapphire crystal is excellent. Caliber 3155 automatic Oyster Perpetual movement is running. Timepiece includes President Box (no insert), Booklets, Cloth, Serial Numbered President Tag, and Guarantee Papers. We rarely see Presidents in THIS condition. Truly one of the finer examples to ever walk through our doors.

Not only is this watch in exemplary condition but has a rich history with it. The timepiece was purchased and gifted as shown in the caseback engraving from Warren E. McCain (CEO of Albertsons) to Dave Ober (Treasurer of Albertsons) for Outstanding performance. Not a bad gift!

Warren E. McCain was truly the real deal and as American as Apple Pie as detailed in his well versed obituary.

"Warren graduated from Payette High School in May of 1943. Shortly after graduation he, like most young people of that time, enlisted in the armed forces. Warren served in the United States Navy. He boarded the U.S.S. Corson AVP-37 in the spring of 1944. The next several months were spent in various areas of the South Pacific concluding with the invasion of Okinawa in the spring of 1945. His unit was present during the conflict on the Buckner Bay side of the island from which they operated their seaplanes and were in the conflict there at the time the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

When the cease fire was announced their squadron, along with the hospital ship Haven, and various minesweepers and destroyers entered Nagasaki Ko Sept. 11, 1945. They released several thousand prisoners of war who had been held captive in the area to mine coal. Removing these poor people who had nearly starved for many, many months left a lasting impression on Warren.

Warren was named Executive Vice President of Operations in December of 1968, President in 1974 and Chairman and CEO in 1975 — a position he held until his partial retirement in 1991. He then served as Chairman of the Executive Committee until May of 1996, remaining on the Albertson’s board until 1998.

During his long tenure with Albertson’s Warren was pleased to participate in the growth of the company from a small regional group of stores to a major factor in the food industry. At the time of his departure from Albertson’s, Wall Street considered ABS the sweetheart of the food chains due to great growth in sales and earnings and return to stockholders equity. These indicators were important to Joe Albertson, the stockholders, the ABS management, and to the Boise community. The credit for this successes was not attributed to any one person. The management and staff at all levels made this possible. Warren was very proud of the people that surrounded him, and he never failed to give them credit. Joe started it all and Warren viewed himself as just “a very good maintenance man.”

I've abbreviated the long and incredible life of him, but I hope you've gotten the jist.
