The Senator Rattrapante is one of the most exciting timepieces to come out of the Glashütte factory in recent years. The watch – as with new generation column wheel chronographs of today – is a complex movement, especially since it is a split seconds chronograph. The movement of the watch was a joy to photograph and for me, it easily rates amongst the most impressive movements in recent years. This is not just because of the complexity of the movement but of the quality of the movement finish as well.

The dial design is distinctly Glashütte Original, as one might expect from the makers of some of the most immediately recognizable dials in the business, but the finish quality is clearly improved over their other chronographs in the Senator collection. This platinum model is expensive but, operating the pushers, one almost forgets how much it costs because of the sweet smoothness of the button action. The chronograph pusher action in my opinion is one of the best there is in the industry.

Not only the exterior of the new platinum chronograph defines its own aesthetic appearance, but also the interior of the noble timepiece reflects the highest standards of technology and design of the German manufactory. Accordingly, the task of the senator's rattrapante was to make the implementation of the technical refinements of the caliber 99 so that the degree of equipment as well as the extremely fine completion of the individual components and assemblies are visible through the sapphire bottom glass. In this way, the fascinating mechanics of the rattrapante attract the attention of the beholder.

The finished dial construction of the first wristwatch-rattrapante from the house Glashütte Original draws the connoisseur into its spell. Historic pocket watch models served as a guide for designers. In the new creation of the Senator Rattrapante, the fast recording of the data was of central importance. This is also reflected in the color selection with respect to the contrast range. The balanced red and white color scheme on anthracite-colored background not only ensures excellent readability, but also perfectly highlights the style of its wearer. Hour, minute and stop seconds hands glide in noble silver over the dark dial. A red rattrapante-pointer follows the silver counterpart on the red numerator, which in turn finds its correspondence in historical precision clocks. Contrasting, silver-ground totalizers are distinguished from the anthracite-colored dial primer. The Panoramadatum, which is typical of Glashütte Original, cannot be missed - at position "4". The Roman numerals underline the stylish character of the noble chronograph. Recognizable sign for all platinum models of the manufacturer Glashütte Original is an onyx cabouchon on the elevator crown. Men, who have high expectations of precision, traditional technique and classic clock design, will be delighted by Senator Rattrapante.


This watch is art for the wrist. This is an exceedingly rare wristwatch with more wrist presence than you could imagine. Complicated watches are great to begin with, but combine the complication with the stepped curved case and the movement assembly and you have a watch you will definitely not want to take off. And, depending on your mood, this watch can serve as a conversation started par excellence.

The rear sapphire crystals permit viewing the caliber in great detail. While this case shape looks great, it's style is overshadowed only by its comfort.
