Description |
We are proud to present this impressive Rolex Sea-Dweller `Great White` watch for sale, fully checked and authenticated in our accredited workshop.
The Sea-Dweller was originally developed in 1967 to compliment the already popular Submariner collection, the Sea-Dweller was developed originally for saturation divers working for SeaLab who were spending a lot longer underwater than your casual Submariner wearer. Because of those extreme conditions and depths, the divers noticed that the crystal would pop out of the case during decompression due to the helium particles in the case. So, Rolex developed the Helium release valve under their patent and thus the Sea-Dweller was born. The famed `Great white` Sea-Dweller, reference 1665 was introduced from 1977 until the early 1980`s, following on from the 10 year production of the `Double Red` Sea-Dweller which shares the same 1665 reference. However, unlike its predecessor the `Great White` features white text, was produced for less 5 years and was the first Sea-Dweller to not feature `Submariner` text anywhere on the dial, signaling that the Sea-Dweller was now a stand alone model and not just a variation under the Submariner umbrella. Coming set in the 40mm stainless steel Oyster case with pin-hole lugs and a uni-rotational bezel fitted with a black insert with contrasting silver diving scale. It`s matte black dial features perfectly aged hands and indicators which have both developed an even tropical patina. The dial is a completed by the classic date window at 3 o’clock and protected by protected by a domed acrylic crystal. The watch is powered by the automatic Rolex calibre 1575 chronometer movement and was originally water resistant to 61atm (610m/2000ft) thanks to its screwdown crown and extra robust Oyster case with a Helium release valve at 9 o’clock. This Sea-dweller is finished off with a `93150` brushed stainless steel Oyster link bracelet with `585` end links and a folding clasp with divers extension. Originally produced in 1981 and supplied in fine condition for its age with its original inner box and outer box, our authenticity card and our 12-month warranty from the date of purchase. Please be advised that this watch is no longer holding its water resistancy. Please contact us for shipping costs to the E.U. All images are of the actual watch for sale. We do not use library pictures. |
